The Royal Proclamation on the 11th October 2019 revealed that the new coin will be a 50p – the UK’s most collected coin!

I have previously bought mint year packs, which i would expect to include ALL the new coins for that year, they don’t. I also purchased the change checker album (before they included some free coins, GRRRR), but there’s been no new £2 coins since 2016 & some of the newer 50 pences haven’t been released into circulation, so why are they in the change checker album? The only way to get them is to either get £2’s in the year pack, or 50p’s in mint packs, (which i’m not going to open to put in cc album). Hardly see any of the A-Z 10p’s either, have given up.
Hi Chez, I appreciate your frustration with the lack of coins entering circulation and that some of these coins are listed on the Change Checker Album ID Cards. At the time of creating the ID cards it was unknown whether or not the coins would enter circulation, so they were included in case the coins were later released. If this coin is not issued for general circulation I don’t see the point of buying it as I will never know the mintage figure and will not get a idea of how rare this coin is. I think it is better to collect coins with a known MINTAGE, coins not issued for circulation are a waste of money unless you know the MINTAGE, that’s the reason Kew Gardens is so sought after.
far to many new 50p coming out which is having the affect that it is becoming not so exciting when a new coin is released also wanted to collect a to z 10p in circulation but as yet still not seen any
Richard and Jim both do make fair points, I would also like to add that I used to buy each coin as it was issued, but as the MINTAGE figures for those coins not realised into circulation are not published you have no idea how many were or are being produced. Also by calling coins from your change you eventually get to know the MINTAGE figures for these coins, also people who cannot afford the next coin which he Royal mint spews out can at least form a coin collection, as for change checker not putting circlulation coins on their rarity lists, eg, 1992 eec 50p, 2018 sir Issac Newton 50p with far lower MINTAGE, then why are a-z 10ps on a rarity list when we do not yet know the MINTAGE figures and yet this is not the same for the beatrix potter 2018 50ps where these are not included. They let you know what they want you to know as this increases sales for particular coins.
Hi Tony, the Change Checker Scarcity Index only includes coins which are in circulation and we know the mintage figures for, so unfortunately the 1992 EEC 50p and the 2018 Strike Your Own Isaac Newton 50p don’t feature. Once the 2018 mintage figures are revealed we will be able to add the 2018 circulation coins to the 50p index which will be really interesting as it is bound to mix things up. With regards to the A-Z 10ps, these are listed on their own Scarcity Index based on estimated mintages for each design if the full 7.3 million were to be split equally. This was the fairest way we could work out each coin’s scarcity whilst only knowing the overall mintage figure.

Richard makes a fair point. If the Wallace and Gromit coin is a 50p, it will be the 18th different 50p so far in 2019 (if the definitive is included), only 4 of which have actually been released to circulation (Definitive, Conan Doyle and the 2 x Paddington Bear). Yes, circulation mintages are demand driven, but there must be quite a demand this year because the 2019 definitive is literally pouring out into circulation; I’ve had loads since April. So why couldn’t that mintage have been split across the un-released commemoratives I wonder. No harm in having a nice collector pack for those that want to pay the steep asking price for one (or your cheaper Change Checker Card), but the Royal Mint is damaging the principle of “change checking”.
