How much is my coin worth? January 2020 eBay Tracker update!

Good news Change Checkers – your latest eBay Tracker and Valuation Index is here!

Whilst the secondary market can be a bit of a minefield, we’ve put together an easy way for you to see how much the Top 10 UK coins and banknotes are selling for right now.

eBay Tracker

Find out which coins and notes have been the key movers and shakers in the updated eBay Tracker below.

Once again, the Kew Gardens 50p is on the rise, this time increasing in price on the secondary market by a staggering £18! This comes after an increase of £5 on the last eBay Tracker update.

The ongoing popularity of this rare coin is clear to see and appears to be continuing to build following the 2019 re-issue of the coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 50p.

But will we continue to see the price of this coin rise on the secondary market? Only time will tell and we’ll have to wait for the next eBay Tracker update to find out!

Other coins to keep an eye on are the Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland £2 which has increased in price by £10 since the last update and the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p which has increased by £2.

However, the biggest riser on the eBay Tracker is the Olympic Football 50p which has increased by 107% to £15.50 on the secondary market – certainly not a bad return for a 50p coin!

As the rarest Olympic 50p in circulation, with a mintage of just 1,125,500, this coin has been on collector’s radars since the Olympic 50p series sparked a collecting frenzy in 2012.

And with the Tokyo Olympics approaching this year, are we likely to see these coins become even more popular with collectors in 2020?

Valuation Index

Overall there has been a 4% increase in value for the Top 10 UK coins and banknotes since June’s update and this is mostly due to the impressive spike in price for the Olympic football 50p.

My coin isn’t on the eBay Tracker

The eBay Tracker follows the movements of the Top 10 UK coins and banknotes, however if your coin doesn’t appear on the tracker you can use our 6 point guide to help determine realistic a value for your coin.

So now that you’re up to date with our latest eBay Tracker, will you be selling any of the coins in your collection or will you continue to save them? Let us know in the comments below.

How does the eBay Tracker work?

The Change Checker eBay Tracker takes the last 9 sold prices achieved on eBay and gives the median price achieved (rounded to the nearest 50p). By taking the median, rather than an average, we avoid skewing created by one or two excessive prices achieved.

Please note that the Change Checker eBay Tracker is only ever designed to be a guide as to prices achieved on eBay. Prices may vary depending on collector demand and the quality of the coin being sold. It does not provide any guarantee as to future values of coins.

If you’re interested in coin collecting, our Change Checker web app is completely free to use and allows users to:

– Find and identify the coins in their pocket
– Collect and track the coins they have
– Swap their spare coins with other Change Checkers

Hello i have a very strange £2 coin its the Charles darwin one but has a thin silver ring in the middle and the rest is copper instead of all being silver. Is this a mistake or miss print? I have tried researching it and cant find anything. Please could anyone help where i can get i valued and checked out please

    Hiya everyone

I have a new £1 coin that appears to have had the middle taken out and put back in in reverse so obverse silver part faces out from reverse side and vice versa.
Is this a minting error or someone messing about? Also will it be worth anything. I don’ t require a valuation, just whether it could be worth something, or is it just curiosity value.

    Cheers, Chris

    • Rachel Hooper on February 3, 2020 at 8:26 am

Hi Chris, unfortunately it sounds as though your coin might have been tampered with and this wouldn’t add any extra value to the coin, however it does make for interesting collecting.

Hi Rachel, I collect only Royal Mint coins, I have all the 50p coins including the 2009 Blue Peter, I realise now with your answer to Adam why this coin is never mentioned on the tracker. Can you confirm the exact number of different 50p that the Royal Mint have minted to date since decimalisation. Thanking you in anticipation .

    • Rachel Hooper on January 15, 2020 at 3:03 pm

Hi Howard, it’s great to hear you are an avid 50p coin collector! Since decimalisation, there have been 82 different reverse designs for 50p coins (including the pre 1997 50ps and Olympic 50ps). You can discover all the different designs here: https://www.changechecker.org/find-a-coin.aspx

    • Les Kent on January 15, 2020 at 9:13 pm

      Hi Howard
I also collect the Royal mint 50p coins and in my 50p collection
and because I collect the all the date runs I have 161 different
50p coins, this includes the rare aquatics.
if you like you can email me [email protected]
      good luck
      Les..

If Kew gardens goes for £100 .then how much are the duel dated 50p worth ?1992-1993.becsuse they are the rarest not Kew gardens .

    • Rachel Hooper on January 15, 2020 at 8:53 am

Hi Adam, we have only included circulation coins and banknotes on the Tracker, which is why the EEC Presidency 50p hasn’t been included, however from a quick eBay search looking at sold listings it doesn’t look as though this coin sells for as much as the Kew Gardens. This is most likely due to the fact that it is lesser known and therefore less sought-after, even though it is technically rarer.

I FIND COLLECTING TO BE SOMETHING I’VE ENJOYED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, WHICH HASN’T BEEN THAT LONG AGO.
I STILL FIND IT TO BE A THRILL WHEN OPENING MY MAIL, AS EACH DELIVERY MAY CONTAIN THE ONE (OR MORE) COIN NEEDED TO COMPLETE ONE OF MY COLLECTIONS ?
WILL I SELL, OR SWAP, ANY OF MY COINS ? THE ANSWER IS YES I AM PREPARED TO DO SO, DEPENDING ON A COIN I WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO AN EVER INCREASING COLLECTION ?SELLING IS A DIFFERENT KETTLE OF FISH, IN AS MUCH THAT ANY SPARE COIN TO BE SOLD MUST REACH A FAIR PRICE, NOT AS IN MANY MANY CASES WHERE A SELLER IS (IN MY MIND) EXPECTING A REDICULESLY HIGH FIGURE ??I’M SURE MANY OTHERS HAVE SEEN FIGURES LIKE THE £8,000 + FOR A 50P WORTH £1 TO £1:50 AT MOST ???
I’VE BEEN FORTUNATE IN MY COLLECTING FROM THE START, AND STILL FIND I MEET DIFFERENT PEOPLE SELLING COINS, SOME IN COMPLETE SETS, THE LATEST THREE ITEMS ARE WORTH MORE THAN THE FIGURES I WAS ASKED TO PAY ? THEY ARE EXCELLENT ADDITIONS FOR ME AND WILL “NOT BE SOLD OR SWAPED”.
I AM ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ITEMS, HELPED BY MY DAUGHTER WHO IS ALWAYS FINDING FANTASTIC ITEMS FOR ME ?

    • Les Kent on January 15, 2020 at 9:35 pm

      Hi Adam
The duel is rarer than the Kew gardens but as you know because it is an old larger size 50p
it is not included any more, BUT there is a smaller 27.3 sizev duel date 50p which is even rarer,
      And there are more.
      Good luck
      Les.
