Upcoming 50p Releases

On the 23rd February 2024, a Royal Proclamation was released announcing 4 new commemorative 50p coins coming soon.

Star Wars Spacecrafts

For now, the full details and designs are still top secret, but we do have some clues as to what will appear on these coins:

  1. a depiction of the Millennium Falcon with the inscription “STAR WARS”
  2. a depiction of a TIE Fighter with the inscription “STAR WARS”
  3. a depiction of an X-Wing with the inscription “STAR WARS”
  4. a depiction of the Death Star II with the inscription “STAR WARS”

Following on from the Star Wars Character Duos 50p series released in 2023 and 2024, we can expect to see more new UK 50ps featuring iconic spacecrafts from the Star Wars franchise.

Iconic Specimens 50ps

Two of the three new Iconic Specimens 50ps have already been released, featuring the mighty Tyrannosaurus and the colossal Stegosaurus, however the Diplodocus 50p is still to come!

These coins are a fitting addition to the wider Tales of the Earth series which previously featured the Dinosauria Collection and the Mary Anning Collection.

Upcoming £5 Releases

Decades of Bond £5 Series

We’re almost halfway through the Decades of Bond £5 coin series, with 4 still to be released. Each coin in this series celebrates a decade of James Bond films, with iconic imagery from the movies and the film titles from each era repeated in the background.

So far, we’ve seen the Bond of the 60s coin featuring Little Nellie from You Only Live Twice, the Bond of the 70s coin showing Wet Nellie, the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me and the Bond of the 80s £5 which features the Acrostar ‘Bede’ Jet from Octopussy.

When you consider the huge popularity of the ‘B’ A-Z 10p which was dedicated to James Bond and the 2020 Bond £5 series, there’s no doubt that this theme is loved within the collecting community.

What do you think will feature on the upcoming Decades of Bond £5 coins?

A traditional design

The stunning reverse design on the 2023 Isle of Man Christmas £2 has been inspired by the iconic stained-glass window of Church Kirk Christ, Rushen on the Isle of Man. Also included on the coin is the message ‘Merry Christmas’ in both English and Manx, a feature common to most of their Christmas £2 coins.

The first King Charles III Isle of Man Christmas £2

Breaking tradition, the Isle of Man didn’t release a Christmas £2 in 2022, making this coin the first one since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. This also means that the 2023 Isle of Man Christmas £2 is the first to feature Glyn Davies’ effigy of King Charles III on the obverse.

The first Isle of Man Christmas £2 coin set a new tradition of festive £2 coins.

The design on the 2018 Christmas £2 pays tribute to an unusual Boxing Day tradition which takes place on the island – Hunt the Wren. The famous Manx tradition involves communities coming together to dance and sing in the streets around a wren bird, which is paraded around on a special pole.

Isle of Man The Snowman™ 50ps

Prior to 2018, the Isle of Man issued some Christmas 50ps to celebrate the festive season.

In 2003, the Isle of Man issued a 50p to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Snowman™. This coin was incredibly sought after by collectors, not only because it was the first ever Snowman™ 50p, but because just 10,000 were minted, making it very scarce.

The Snowman™ 50p was re-issued in 2008 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Snowman™.
