Coronation 50th Anniversary

Queen Elizabeth II £5: Coronation 50th Anniversary

Years of issue:

2003

Coin Information:

Following the success of the Golden Jubilee coins of 2002, the Royal Mint issued a £5 coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Coronation, which took place on 2nd June 1953. The Coronation was the first event to be filmed as well as televised, and reached many privileged spectators around the world. Both obverse and reverse were designed by Tom Phillips. The obverse has an unusual treatment of the Queen's profile, but it is the lettering which makes this coin truly unique. The same lettering is also applied to the reverse, whose central motif is the words GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
