Coin Information:

In 1982, the reverse inscription on the 1p coin was changed from NEW PENNY to ONE PENNY. Designed by Chrsitopher Ironside, the coin features a portcullis with chains royally crowned which was the Badge of King Henry VII and his successors. The first copper-plated steel 1p coins were struck in 1992 due to the increase of metal prices on world markets. The composition of 1p coins was changed from bronze to copper-plated steel and as a result, the coins are magnetic. The 1p coin is legal tender for amounts up to 20p.
