Coin Information:

The White Lion of Mortimer £5 coin is the seventh coin to be released in The Queen’s Beasts Collection by The Royal Mint. The collection celebrates the ten ancestral beasts of heraldry, myth and legend that have watched over Her Majesty The Queen throughout her unprecedented reign. The White Lion of Mortimer links to the Queen through Edward IV and is one of the 10 heraldic beasts that guarded the temporary western annexe to Westminster Abbey for HM Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. The reverse design by Jody Clark features the uncrowned Lion on its hind legs, protecting the Mortimer shield. The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen and has also been designed by Jody Clark.
