This 50p coin was issued in 2020 to celebrate Team GB’s inspirational participation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, where British athletes secured seven medals, men and women who have the honour of representing their country, compete in the greatest sporting competition in the world. This coin’s reverse design, by David Knapton, features various symbols of Olympic sport. Queen Elizabeth II’s fifth portrait by Jody Clark features on the obverse of this coin.
