To celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of King Canute, a brand new £5 coin has been issued by The Royal Mint. Canute was hailed the the first ‘king of all England’, and this coin has been designed by Lee R. Jones. This is the first time ever The Royal Mint has commemorated a 1,000-year anniversary on a coin – an occasion of real significance.
