Coin Information:

To mark the 250th anniversary of British explorer Captain James Cook’s Voyage of Discovery, The Royal Mint issued this historic £2 coin in 2018. The distinctive reverse was designed by Gary Breeze featuring the Stern of HM Bark Endeavour, Captain Cook’s famous ship, leaving Plymouth. The ensign and the UK flag are visible alongside the signature of Cook and the number 250 to mark the anniversary. This coin is also the first in a three coin series. Once all three are collected, you can arrange them together to reveal the full design. Captain James Cook underwent three famous voyages which were responsible for the detailed mapping of lands in the Pacific Ocean, including New Zealand and Hawaii. His work inspired future explorers and astronomers for generations, and this coin honours the first of these voyages.
