Years of issue:
This coin was issued as part of The Royal Mint’s Lunar Year £5 series and celebrates the Lunar Year of the Dragon. The Chinese Zodiac calendar can be tracked back as far as the 14th Century B.C and has fascinated the imaginations of millions of people since. As part of the eternal twelve-year cycle, an animal and its reputed attributes are assigned to each year. The reverse design of this coin by William Webb features the most powerful of all the zodiac beasts, the Dragon. Not only was this the first 2024 dated UK coin to be released, but it was the first coin in the Lunar Year series to feature King Charles III on the obverse.
