How much are your coins worth? Your eBay Tracker Update…

Use Change Checker’s UK eBay Coin Tracker below to discover how much the coins in your collection could be worth – you might have nearly £500 down the back of your sofa!

As new coins are issued featuring King Charles III’s portrait, including a circulation 50p, many collectors may wonder how much they could fetch on secondary market sites.

But, secondary markets can be a bit of a minefield. So, we’ve done the hard work for you.

Discover Change Checker’s UK eBay Tracker Update below…

UK eBay Coin Tracker

Change Checker eBay Tracker – January 2023.

King Charles III 50p

The new King Charles III 50p entered circulation in December 2022. It hit the headlines as it was the very first UK coin to feature His Majesty’s portrait on the obverse.

Commemorating Queen Elizabeth II’s life and achievements, this 50p is already fetching 400% its face value on eBay, with the median selling price of the last 9 listings coming up at £2.50!

4.9 million 50p coins are out there. So, we all stand a reasonable chance of finding one in our change. Plus, if you’ve used our collector map, you will have tracked down a 50p for your own collection.

Kew Gardens 50p

The rarest 50p in circulation, the Kew Gardens, is one of the most sought-after coins out there.

Just 210,000 of these 50p coins entered circulation in 2009 and now, 14 years on, it’s still fetching over around £167 on the secondary market. That’s a huge return on a 50p coin!

It’s understandably quite tricky to find one in the wild now, with the majority expected to have been absorbed into private collections. But, are you lucky enough to have this in your collection? Comment below!

Undated 20p

Largely considered the Holy Grail of coin collecting, the undated 20p is incredibly sought-after by collectors.

In 2008, a small number of 20p coins were incorrectly struck without a date. No more than 250,000 entered circulation, making it particularly hard to find one.

The median selling price on eBay for the last 9 sold listings in January saw this 20p sell for around £75!

So, you better start checking your 20ps in your piggy bank…

We’ve entered a whole new era of coinage and banknotes, with the accession of King Charles III to the throne and there has never been a better time to start checking your change.

So, as new coins enter circulation, keep your eyes peeled for the small details, like a missing date, an incorrect inscription, or an incorrect blank.

A look at our UK Ebay Coin Tracker shows you just how valuable rare and error coins can be to some collectors.

Hi Michael, it’s always worth checking our most recent eBay Tracker blogs and Scarcity Indexes to work out how rare your coins are.
      Hope that helps!

Hi! I’m Jai. I’m in 6th grade, and I’d like to ask which coins should I purchase now, especially after the queen sadly passing.

Only 19,722 Blue Peter 50p coins so why is not the rarest ?

    • Rachel on January 20, 2023 at 2:26 pm

Hi John, whilst a special version of this coin was minted in lower numbers, the circulating version has a mintage of 2,224,000. Still pretty rare for a 50p, but not the rarest. You can find out more about the circulating coin here: https://www.changechecker.org/coin/67/olympic50p-Athletics.aspx

Picked a 50p Kew Gardens out of my change in 2010/11, so I’m very pleased with that. Have never seen one in my change since.

Can you please tell me what the difference is, if any, between the original issue of the 50p Kew Gardens and the later reissued one. Thanks

I bought the Kew Gardens 50p from eBay a couple of years after was released for £10. I did get laughed at for paying £10 for a 50 pence coin but once I saw only 210,000 were being released I knew it would be very hard to find in your change.

Yes. I have a near mint original Kew Gardens.50p. and Yes its for sale to the highest bidder. Its not on E bay or any other website although I have been a high seller in the past as my E bay record will show. This original Kew gardens. will in time to come be selling for thousands as one of the rarest British coins in existence. look for me on E bay showing past sales record

This is brilliant, really interesting. If the site could have this feature embedded so you could see the value (updated maybe monthly) and also a total of the face value, this would be really cool!

      Hi Kieran,

This is fantastic feedback – thank you for passing this on.

We’re in the process of updating our Web App so we will consider this in our plans.

      Thanks,
      Alex

Would it be possible to split the BU commemorative only coins from circulating coins in the app, as that way it would be easier to manage my collection. Plus the addition of British Isles coins on the app would be great!

      • Alexandra on January 23, 2023 at 10:17 am

Thanks for this feedback, Edward! As we’re currently making updates to the app, we’ll consider this in our developments.

        Best,
        Alex

No date on my new 50p Charles 3rd coins. Please comment.

    • Alexandra on January 17, 2023 at 5:19 pm

      Hi Grace,

There should be a date on the reverse design at the bottom (it’s slightly tucked away).

      Best,
      Alex
