Is there a strong case to say that the Jane Austen two pound coin IS a circulating coin. This is because a number were released at strategic locations early in 2018.
If I am incorrect in this, what exactly is a ‘circulating coin’?

    • Rachel Hooper on January 7, 2020 at 8:46 am

Hi Martin, a very small number were released as a promotional activity. It’s certainly worth keeping your eyes out in case one finds it’s way into your change, but the likelihood is that most of these were snapped up by collectors.

1 question wrong but I thought there was only 2.6 million 10ps released? So 2.6 million divided by 26 as 26 letters is 100,000 is it not? So basically your saying they have now released 5.7 million? Hmmmmmmm

    • Alexandra Siddons on January 2, 2020 at 9:45 am

Hi Barry, well done! You really know your coins! There were 220,000 of each individual A-Z 10p design in 2018 and it has been announced that there are a total of 2.1 million A-Z 10p coins that are 2019 dated. When the 2019 mintage figures are announced, we will know how many of each 2019 design were issued.

I think I have got all questions right.

  14. Sheila McMillan on December 23, 2019 at 9:16 pm

Never even seen one of the A-Z 10p so don’t know what’s on them.
If there were 220,000 put into circulation how come hardly anyone has seen them?

    • Alexandra Siddons on January 2, 2020 at 10:08 am

      Hi Sheila,

We’ve got a blog that explains all of the 10p designs: https://www.changechecker.org/2018/03/01/the-a-z-of-great-britain-10p-coins/

220,000 is a very low mintage figure for a coin. It’s nearly as low as the Kew Gardens which has just 210,000! These coins have also been incredibly popular with collectors, so everyone has got their eyes peeled for one. But they are out there, keep searching! You never know what you’ll find in your change 🙂

      Thanks!
