Upcoming King Charles III Coins! What we know so far…

The collecting community has been abuzz with excitement for new King Charles III coins, especially since the UK’s new circulating coinage set was released in October.

And so I’m delighted to give you all the updates we know so far about future King Charles III commemorative coins to look forward to.

Read on to find out what’s on the horizon from the UK’s latest Royal Proclamations and get ready to add these upcoming coins to your collecting wish list!

Upcoming 50p Releases

The Gruffalo’s Child

Back in 2019, the collecting world was sent into a frenzy with the release of a 50p celebrating 20 years since the publication of the beloved Julia Donaldson children’s book, The Gruffalo!

Believe it or not, in 2024 we celebrate 20 years since the best-selling sequel, The Gruffalo’s Child was released.

So it’s only fitting that a new UK 50p should be released this year to mark the occasion!

The new 50p is set to feature a depiction of the Gruffalo’s Child and a mouse, accompanied by the inscription “THE GRUFFALO’S CHILD”.

Considering the popularity of previous Gruffalo coins, this release really will be one to watch out for!

Red Arrows

Formally known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows are one of the world’s top aerobatic display teams.

Renowned for their speed, agility and trademark Diamond Nine shape formation, the team have been displaying since 1965 and will soon feature for the first time on a UK 50p coin.

The upcoming 50p is set to feature a depiction of three Red Arrow aircraft with their signature smoke trails, with the inscription “RED ARROWS”.

This is certainly a release collectors and Red Arrow fans alike will be looking forward to!

It’s been a Christmas tradition to welcome The Snowman onto a new UK 50p and this year is set to be no different, as a new UK Snowman 50p will be released.

The new coin will feature a depiction of The Snowman from the book, placing a star atop a
Christmas tree.

2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 The Snowman™ 50ps

Previous Snowman coins have been some of the most sought-after issues of the year, so you can be sure that collectors will be looking forward to seeing this new coin when it’s released!

Harry Potter

A new Harry Potter 50p is set to cast a spell on collectors this year!

According to the Royal Proclamation, this coin will feature a depiction of Harry Potter being captured by three Merpeople accompanied by the inscription “THE BLACK LAKE”.

Earlier this year, we were treated to a new Harry Potter 50p – with the boy wizard himself flying across the coin as he took part in the challenge of the Winged Keys.

Next up, we travel to the Black Lake for another exciting Harry Potter adventure, brought to life on a UK 50p!

Upcoming £5 Releases

Queen’s Panther

We’ve already seen six Tudor Beasts brought to life on UK £5 coins and it looks as though the next in the line-up is set to feature the Queen’s Panther.

Over 400 years ago Henry VIII commissioned the sculpting of 10 heraldic animal statues. They were produced to represent the ancestry of King Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour. These became known as “The King’s Beasts” and can still be seen to this day, guarding the main entrance to Hampton Court Palace.

Little John

The Royal Mint’s Myths & Legends £5 series will continue with the release of Little John – companion to Robin Hood and second-in-command of the Merry Men.

We’ve already been treated to three Arthurian Legend £5 coins. Now the series continues with Robin Hood, Maid Marian and the upcoming Little John £5.

Lunar Year of the Snake

The Lunar Year £5 coins are usually one of the first coins issued bearing the following year’s date. For example, the Lunar Year of the Dragon £5 was issued in September 2023 and was the first 2024 dated UK £5 coin.

The next Lunar Year £5 coin has been announced, and as 2025 will be the Year of the Snake, it’ll feature the snake.

The Royal Proclamation reveals that the coin will feature a depiction of a snake upon grassy landscape with the inscription “YEAR OF THE SNAKE · ”, the date of the year and the Chinese character for a snake.

Decades of Bond £5 Series

We’re over halfway through the Decades of Bond £5 coin series, with 3 still to be released. Each coin in this series celebrates a decade of James Bond films, with iconic imagery from the movies and the film titles from each era repeated in the background.

So far, we’ve seen the Bond of the 60s coin featuring Little Nellie from You Only Live Twice, the Bond of the 70s coin showing Wet Nellie, the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me, the Bond of the 80s £5 which features the Acrostar ‘Bede’ Jet from Octopussy and the Bond of the 90s £5 depicting the iconic Thames River chase scene from The World is Not Enough.

When you consider the huge popularity of the ‘B’ A-Z 10p which was dedicated to James Bond and the 2020 Bond £5 series, there’s no doubt that this theme is loved within the collecting community.

What do you think will feature on the upcoming Decades of Bond £5 coins?

Upcoming £2 Releases

Winston Churchill £2

Usually, all the coins in the Annual Set are individually released throughout the year, however this year is different, as the Winston Churchill £2 will NOT be individually issued. So currently the only way to get your hands on it is in the 2024 Annual Set.
